Is my preferred date for packing guaranteed?
In many cases we can realize your preferred date, but we do depend on the availability of our crews. We also see that it is more difficult to provide this during busy holiday periods. Naturally, we will do everything we can to achieve this. Your personal moving coordinator is in direct contact with you to plan this moment.
Why the discount?
We can offer you a discount when booking on our online platform because you customize the move yourself. This is a cheaper way of offering our services and you should also benefit.
This does not mean that we do not get in touch with you, we are always available via phone and email should you have any questions.
What does my personal move coordinator do?
The move coordinator is one of our colleagues who will be your main point of contact throughout your move. This person knows the ins and outs of your move and schedules the packing crew, the container transport and delivery crew. He or she will also help you with the customs formalities as it requires some paperwork.
Can I insure my goods through Transpack Moving?
We do not offer insurance ourselves, but are working together with an insurance company. They offer four levels of protection, each with its own price and coverage. Please let us know if you are interested in knowing what they have to offer, we will share you email address and phone number so you get access to their online platform.
Getting access to that platform does not require you to buy their services.
Who will assist me abroad?
We have an extensive network of partner moving companies across the world. In every country we have a few trusted partners and one of them will assist you with your move at destination. We determine which company is best for your situation and they will reach out to you once the container left Europe.
Is there a minimum and maximum volume?
Yes, we have a minimum volume of 1m3. There is a maximum volume in the online pricing tool and that is 20m3. You will notice that the system gives you an error when adding more items when you have reached the maximum volume. However, you can still ship more than 20m3, it just requires a tailormade quote. Please contact sales@transpack.nl.
Why must the wardrobes be disassembled?
Besides the crew being able to carry the furniture safely, it is also more prune to damage and breakage. When the items are in the container, they are loaded tight as to prevent sliding in the container. However, we cannot prevent bumping, shaking, etc. The container is subject to a lot of movements in port and on the ocean.
Am I allowed to fill the closets and wardrobes?
No, this is not allowed by customs and also increases the risk of damages. The only thing we can make an exception for are pillows. However, please take into account that goods inside furniture are not covered by insurance due to the extra risk of damages. So, please prevent doing that, or keep it at pillows and similar items only.
What should I do if I want to move an item that is not mentioned in the list?
No problem. We could not mention every piece of furniture on that list, so we created the field with the big ‘’+’’. You can fill in the name of the item yourself and also fill in the dimensions of that item. In case you are still cautious if you are filling in the correct thing, give us a call and we will guide you through it.
Underneath the TV it says ‘’*65 inches’’, why?
TV’s are getting bigger and bigger. We consider 65 inch to be the maximum dimension or a normal TV and does not require extra handling. If you are moving a bigger tv, you may need a custom made crate as damage risks increase the bigger they get.
Am I allowed to ship a piano or a safe?
Yes, however, please know that items that are very heavy, big or valuable may require additional handling and therefore costs. A safe cannot be carried easily, so requires more manpower or special equipment. Please let us know in advance if you intend to move these kinds of items!
Also please note that a locked safe is not allowed to ship. In case customs decides to inspect the container, they must be able to open the safe. If it is locked you will get a fine and risk the chance of customs taking ownership of the item and destroy it.
What goods are prohibited to ship?
Every destination country has its own rules, so please check online or with a Transpack representative when you are not sure. Of course, there are some general rules applicable for each country, you are not allowed to ship drugs, weapons and explosives. Most countries also do not accept food items and liquids.
But for some countries there are additional rules, a good example is Thailand where any Buddha item – portrayed, statue, etc. – is not allowed!
Please check the regulations carefully!
What happens if the volume is different than estimated?
It happens that after packing the volume is more or less then what was booked. We understand that calculating volume can be tricky due to different sizes of items, a few last minute changes, etc. We charge costs based on the actual volume. So, if it turns out you are moving 2m3 more than anticipated, you will receive an additional invoice. If volume is less, you will receive a credit invoice. Please mind that the origin service and part of the freight charges cannot be credited. The crew and container space had already been reserved, and those costs have been made.
Why is the volume only mentioned in round numbers, no decimals?
Our moving services are charged per cubic meter. If you are moving, for example, 7.5m3, this will automatically be calculated as 8m3.
Why the different service levels?
We offer four kinds of services, from packing and unpacking done by yourself up to a full carefree move where we do all the work. Of course, all service levels come with their own rate and requirements, and not everyone has the same budget or wishes. We therefore offer a variety of services and you can decide what works best for you.
What does Customs Clearance mean?
When moving internationally, we must declare at customs what is leaving and entering the countries. This requires some paperwork. We understand that you may not be experienced with these kinds of formalities and that you require our help.
Your personal move coordinator will inform you of the required documentation and check whether they have been filled in correctly. He or she will also file these documents with customs and let you know once the process has been completed.
What payment methods are accepted?
After confirmed your move and click on the button to book the move, you can choose several options for payment: IDeal, Credit Card, Apple Pay and PayPal. The remaining sum can be paid through wire transfer or Credit Card.
Why the downpayment?
When booking your move there are some processes that directly activate and cost money, e.g. reserving container space, securing a crew, etc. Asking for a downpayment helps us reduce the risk of having to send partially empty containers.
When must I pay the remaining moving costs?
When you book the move online, you are asked to complete a downpayment of 25%. The remaining 75% will be billed 30 days prior to the packing or pick-up date at origin. The total sum must be received no later than 4 days before the crew will visit you.
Could there be additional costs?
We have included all the costs we could possibly add. However, in logistics there could always be unforeseen charges, think of the recent problems in the Red Sea. All container ships have to pass South Africa and spend approximately 2 weeks more at sea instead of using the Suez Canal. Shipping companies charge that to its client, even when the container is already at sea.
Additionally, please know that customs can decide to inspect a container. This is done in random order and is therefore not known to us beforehand. Should they choose to inspect the container with your belongings in it, then expect some extra charges billed at cost.
What happens after I book online?
Once you have completed your online booking and made the downpayment you will receive a confirmation email. We will reach out to you within one working day and go through the details with you. We can make some last minute changes in case required.
You will be connected with your personal move coordinator and he or she will inform you of all the requirements for the customs formalities and schedule a packing or loading date with you.
Average transit time of the move
Because we offer our moving services to various countries, the average transit time differs per destination. However, to give you an idea, we estimate that moving to New York takes approximately 6 to 8 weeks and a move to Sydney approximately 10 to 12 weeks.
Your personal move coordinator will keep you updated on the progress of your shipment.
